Cordon bleu... hit or miss?

Post by Jossi » Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:26 pm

I have been thinking lately about getting a couple of CB's. I have no experience of them what so ever... but find them absolutely gorgeus and they have the most delightfull song :)

Is it a hit or miss to mix CB's with goulds and canaries? Or should I keep them in a separate cage?

Are they best keept in male/female pairs or is it just as fine with male/male or female/female?

I have heard that they are friendly and calm... is this correct in your oppinion?

Tell me all you know and experienced with those lovely birds!

I just find them so freakin adorable

By the way... in sweden we call them butterfly finch, beautiful name, dont you think!

I have rccb's, not bccb's, but I believe they're similar regarding housing and temperament. My rccb's all get along with each other and with other finches, but they can be bullied by some species of finches. I had mine in a combined flight with Stars, Societys, Spice, Owls, and GS. The Owls and GS would bully the rccb's, so I move them to their own cage. I find them very quiet and the song is soft, but beautiful. One of my fav finches.

They are so pretty! Im not that interested in breeding them, I got my hands full with the goulds, so it would be okey with same sexed pairs?

Yours are absolutly gorgeus! would you say that they are pretty calm? I dont really like overly active or pushy birds, as zebras for example... I find my goulds and canaries quite calm, especially in the evening, when they are resting and singing

They are a bit harder to get your hands on here, so it would probably take some time... but then I have some time to think about it

I have a pair of RCCB in a cage by themselves. Once they fledge their baby, I'm going to put my pair of yellow canaries in with them (Swedish colors, you know). Where in Sweden are you? My husband's father was born in Oland.

How nice, blue and yellow! They are super cute :D
Öland is an island on the east coast and I live in Gothenburg, Swedens second biggest city and it is located on the west coast. Have you ever been to sweden? Öland is by the way, very beautifull... wish I could live there myself

Had a wonderful visit there in '87 visiting relatives. My daughter was a foreign exchange student in Randers Denmark, so we stopped there first; then on to Sweden. Put on 1800 miles in our rented Volvo; we ended up in Stockholm with my husband's cousin. Loved the trip

You can put CBs with Gouldians, but I don't know about canaries. I don't know anything about canaries, so can't say how they would be as cagemates. A male/female pair is always best, but you can go with a female/female pair. You can also have a male/male pair, but ONLY if you do not have a female CB anywhere near. The presence of a female will cause the two males to fight.
