button quail food?

Post by Mynard » Thu Dec 01, 2011 3:13 pm

Hi Guys,i was wondering for button quails
Is there any other food that you can feed them besides game bird crumble?
in my research i haven't had any luck finding any substitutes that will be as beneficial-Would i be able to use something like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... Id=3156820
(would have to grind it down to size) for them or is there anything else i can get from the pet store for them?
T.I.A :)

Tania, I also answered on Facebook. :-)

The protein content is way to low for buttons, I would not use it. I feed Mannapro Gamebird/Showbird crumbles and order them on Amazon. They are 24% protein, non-medicated and already small button-bite-sized.

Here's a link to the manufacturer's website: http://www.mannapro.com/products/poultr ... dshowbird/
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

I was also having trouble finding a reasonable sized bag of food for my new button quail. Is this all you feed them? Mine are on bottom of finch aviary so I am sure they get a lot of finch seed too but I am wondering if I need to add anything else.
thanks,
Lori

My button quail are in the aviary too, so besides their dish with gamebird crumbles they do also eat finch seed (there's a tray on the floor in addition to my hanging feeders), and they share a tray with daily fresh veggies, egg food, and chitted seed with the finches. Veggies are typically a leaf of romaine, finely grated carrot, finely chopped zucchini, broccoli, or thawed frozen corn kernels. (All of the above organic, except the frozen corn.) My eggfood is mashed hardboiled egg made to crumble by adding corn meal. Occasionally they get some cooked chopped pasta, rice, quinoa, or couscous.

I also feed the buttons a few big size mealworms every day, which they love(!). And sometimes I put a millet spray on the floor, they love to eat that too.

So basically they eat what the finches eat, plus their game bird crumbles.
