HELP :(

Post by PrettyBird » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:49 am

I posted another thread titled "Gouldian Molting"
http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17648

It was about my female, and wondering if she was molting, or if the male was plucking her. I posted some photos of her missing feathers mainly around her head.

Well this morning I went to wake up the birds, and I see that she is missing ALOT more feathers now. Her wings, head/neck area. She looks bad :(
PLease can someone tell me if this is molting OR is the male plucking her? Is she out of breeding condition right now? Is this why the male is doing this to her out of frustration because he is in breeding mode? (if this is even him doing it)
IF it is..should I pull the nest out....should I seperate the two? I have a small cage...but Im scared she will die if they are seperated.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with her? PLease Im starting to worry now. Is it molting? Is it the male plucking?
And what can I do to help her. :(

Heres pictures I took this morning. Shes a little fluffed up it was chillier today.

She looks like she is having a heavy moult....Although it is hard to tell by the darkness in the pictures....Her beak is black which says she is in condition, but with the moult, she will not necessarily want to breed...I do know a breeder who does breed his birds whether they are moulting or not...I would never do that, it is very hard on them to do either, never mind both together......Keep an eye on her, and it you see the male picking on her, then you can separate them....Keep the cages close, if you can, so they don't feel alone....Some with more experience than I should chime in and help you more....but from what I see, she is just moulting

IM sorry it was pretty early when I took the photos. The sun hadnt even risen :/
I will try and get some other pics later on today. Im kinda thinking it may be a combination of the male plucking her (ive seen him do it) and her molting...
I am not sure if shes in breeding condition. The tip of her beak is black...the rest of the beak is all grey. I was told it has to be all black to be in breeding mode. #-o
I dont know.
I would love to hear what others think about this.

For now I will just continue to keep an eye on her.
