In the picture that you put up of Pinky.
Are you using Perler Beads for banding the bird?
I used to use them, but not any longer.
Most of my birds try to take them off and some have hurt themselves.
Also they are a devil to get off, and the colour fades.
I went and bought a special small type of plyers to get them off.

Here is the video as promised, let me know what you think.
I know it may be a little long, but the most "singing" is towards the end.

I watched the video.
I still say it's a hen.
That's not real singing.
By the time it's five months old it should
have a well rounded song.

You will love her even more when she gets home Liz. =D> It is so easy to catch her on video "singing" she is constantly making lives around here brighter.. =D> But, that also means that I have never heard her dad sing :? :(

I agree with Janine, their song brightens our home. It is one of those sounds that make you pause, isten and smile!!!

I read your post in response to this video, stating the gs is a hen. The song sounds like a juvenile male to me. I've never heard hen trill or sing beyond a chirp. What about the song made you think it's a hen and not a cock? :?:

I'm gonna guess this is a male.
I haven't watched the video, but just from the necklace, head shape, markings, l'd wager it's a boy.

So I just realized now this is an old topic from March. Did she turn out to be a boy or girl?

I could argue with you, Jerry. Last year I had GS that looked as a female at 5 1/2 months. I was sure it was a female.

I have four juvenile GS and two sing and two sort of sing, but the two that sort of sing have the necklace at six months of age. I'm guessing they're hens. The younger ones, who sing well, are probably cocks and are starting to lose the necklace at age 3-4 months.

Being as how I have had no complaints from Liz, I am assuming that she is a little hen :D
