Hi everyone.
I would like to know what brand of sprout mix people use that their birds love. I am currently using birds are us white sprouting mix and my birds are not crazy about it. I have been serving it for about two weeks now. It is almost gone and I want to order a different kind they may like better. Any help is appreciated!!!

I buy Abba soak seed, and my goldbreast loves it. There are quite a few larger seeds that she won't touch but my society will.

Re: what brand of sprout mix
Are you certain that it is the ingredients in the mix they don't like or the sprouts themselves.
Have you offered sprouts before and your birds readily consumed them?
Just trying to offer up the potentially over looked possibility that perhaps your birds just are not accustomed to sprouts in general.
Most sprout mixes contain roughly the same type of seed - usually a blend of millets and grass seeds.
I did not have much luck with the Abba seed when I used to use it - it took forever to chit, which I understand is a sign of it being not as fresh.
I ordinarily used the Birds R Us white blend, but I will be using the Maintenance Blend to sprout from now on since it does not have the Safflower seed in it which my birds do not eat.

Re: what brand of sprout mix
ABBA has a new (well new to me at least) sprout mix for finches and softbills. Nice stuff, chits, sprout and grows well
The other sprout mix I use to get had too many of the large seeds to make it worth while.
Most of the time I use my plain seeds, millet and canarygrass are my favorites to soak.

Re: what brand of sprout mix
I don't think I tried the new one - the one I tried was the "soak" seed it did have a lot of larger seeds in it too - they were the only ones that every sprouted but I sifted them out anyways..CandoAviary wrote:ABBA has a new (well new to me at least) sprout mix for finches and softbills. So maybe the finch specific one will be better

Maybe they are not used to soaked seed yet. I do know they never eat the sunflower seeds. I guess I just need to give them more time to get used to the sprout mix. I don't fully sprout them.

How do you offer them? On a flat dish on the floor of the cage, in a cup on the side of the cage? etc?star wrote:Maybe they are not used to soaked seed yet. Do your birds eat broccoli or any other veggies that you could grind up and mix with the sprouts?

Re: what brand of sprout mix
I used to have the same problem. But I just kept serving it and tried different things. Now my Gouldians devour it and they wouldn't touch it.
One way to get them to the dish is to take out their normal seed mix for about an hour so they will go to the sprouted seed - sometimes its just a matter of them trying something new. I found the more I put in there the less they ate, now I serve just the sprouted seed and they eat every seed.

Re: what brand of sprout mix
I serve it on a flat dish spread out on cage floor. The dry seed is taken out while the sprout seed is offered. I also offer veggies in a separate dish. They don't like veggies much either. I have only had my finches for a few months and some of them less time . Maybe it will just take time. Has anyone had finches that went from not liking it to loving it?

Re: what brand of sprout mix
If one was to prepare his own gouldian finch sprout mix what would you suggest to include?
I mean what seeds and at what ratio each one of them? I cannot find a sprouting seed min on the market so I decided to prepare my own and soak it.
Also I have tried my finch mix before but doesn't sprout and I believe that the seeds go under some kind of treatment so they don't go bad easily and that's why they don't sprout.

Re: what brand of sprout mix
I use my normal seed mix, don't know the ratio of seeds though. If your seeds don't sprout they are probably not all that nutritious for your birds to eat.
I have also used the fabulous finch white and black sprout mixes.

I use ABBA soak seed. Here is a link to their website that lists the ingredients: http://www.abbaseed.com/Seed_Products/SOAK/soak.htmlgouldianscy wrote:If one was to prepare his own gouldian finch sprout mix what would you suggest to include?

Re: what brand of sprout mix
the one from ABBA I am using already but it's more for canaries than finches based on the seeds it contains.
Can someone tell us the ratios of the fabulous finch white and black sprout mixes?
