Jerry, Diamond Sparrow mentioned treating with Ronex 12% to be on the safe side...I tend to agree with the addition of coccicare since you lost a new bird in the flight suddenly. Unless you had treated already. Symptoms can come and go until the bird gets to weak and succumbes to it.

The one thing with parasites is that they don't often show during the time of quarantine until the bird starts breeding or stressed. Usually during quarantine the the bird is being "built up" with good foods, minerals, calcium, veggies and looks healthy which will allow the bird to fend off the parasites. When they start to breed either they start showing signs or they pass it to their young and you loose young either right before fledging, soon after fledging or a month or two later.

The issues sometimes is when aquiring birds and buying from several different sources in a short time span is that eventually you could end up with issues regarding health. I would, and mind you others may disagree but it in my opinion I would treat that flight the bird that passed was in with Ronex 12%, possibly coccicare as well as the parrot finches if you have not already or if she goes down again. If she goes down again and is thin, and struggles to breathe...listen closley, it is not a clicking sound but a huffing and puffing sound, she may not have a loose stool but you may notice she spends time at the bottom, seems out of breath with a simple flight, she may apear to cough. Parasites can cause secondary infections in the respiratory system so you may need to treat with ronex12% and amoxitex.

If you are comfortable watching her to see if she shows further signs I would look for these symptoms in the future especially since she was in the same flight as the one that passed suddenly. I do admit the one that passed could have died of other causes.

The first day I gave her Tetra- tex and now Ronex would be over kill, mind the pun, she is doing well and don't want to further stress her.
By the look of her that day when I found her, she looked very hungry and tired and most of all stressed!
After she ate and drank and was out of the aviary, she was on the mend.

The Bengalese and GS were in full nesting mode and now have eggs and they would not give her and her mate any peace.
My other post discussed how the Bengies were trying to take over their nest.
These birds are very docile, to the point of push overs and are not very good at defending them selves!

I am going to build them a separate flight cage and keep them apart!

They are getting the clay- cal in their egg food and meal worms.
I am trying to give them and all my birds natural remedies as much as possible before going to the heavy meds!

She looks great and is her bouncy self!

Yay!! So glad she is doing much better! They will LOVE a flight of their own -- and will share happily (if enough room) with other PF's one day.

Bigbear I'm glad to hear your little hen perked up. I have one question did you complete the course of Tetratex or just use it for the one day?

RFPF are notorius for getting worms-not knowing your cage setup, this might be not possible- but they are usually more effected by this than other birds-just a suggestion

She wasn't sick, as in needing drugs!
She was hungry and dehydrated because
the other two pairs of birds were not letting her eat.
As soon she drank water and ate, she was good as new!

Right now her and her mate are in their
own cage I picked up just for them.

Personally I have been a bit shocked by how easily RTPF's are dominated by other birds -- they can be very aggressive to each other (several instances of one male grabbing another and dangling them briefly by the "scruff" comes to mind ). However, mine have been intimidated out of nesting sites, away from food and just generally by almost every other species of bird I've owned at times -- even the tiny but very plucky Blackrumped Waxbill.

PF's are very rambunctious and active and boisterous and a bit bigger than many finches but there is not a mean bone in their bodies (except toward other PF's apparently  )

I hope they get busy in their new home, soon, Jerry! Be sure to let us know!

Jerry... that looks REALLY promising. Mine always pack their nests so full I have to wonder how THEY fit inside! I think you may have some young-uns this round! Drop me a PM if you have any problems along the way and I'll see if I have any answers.
