Stripe-ish tail society finch

Post by RigorMortisKitten » Mon Dec 26, 2011 12:59 pm

Im wondering if my society finch is a hybrid or so :D do you notice the stripes across his tail feathers ? Is this common among societies ? None of the other society finches has this. Im mostly wondering because he sounds much like a zebra finch  does kind of a "Meep"-sound unlike the others

Hmm, he does look a tad bit odd. I do think he is a normal society, just unique. He may have been raised with or around zebras and mimmicks them. I have heard fe of the zebra/society hybrids live long because the two are so unclosely related.

It is possible to breed a society with a zebra but i have never seen them and it does not happen often.. the stripes are not very full and if he were zebra the white would be a little bit thicker even if he was a hybrid. he would also have tall tale VERY light stripes on his chest and light dots under his wings. Mostly if the mother was a zebra(if he IS a he) and vise versa... he is very beautiful! can you get an up close pic of his front and side?

Thank you for your replies :) I agree that he looks a bit odd, he has beautiful feathers but he looks all stained  Thats why i named him Stains! I also think that those white dots above his beak make him look angry from the front

Its true that he has lived with zebras before, so maybe the sound he makes is inspired by the zebras!

I will try to get close-ups - it will be a lot easier to do this when i move them from the quarantine cage to the other birds

Hahaha, thats brilliant  he is also the loudest one of all 4 societies i have, i think he'll be the alfa male when he gets to join the 2 others

Its great that you're getting societies! I think they are very cute and smart birds, they are indeed fun to have as company!
