Eggfood is a nutritious, easy to digest bird food made mainly from eggs. It is usually provided when chicks begin to hatch so the parents will have protein rich soft food to feed their babies. If you go to the "recipes for bird food" subforum you can probably find a good recipe.

Egg food can be as simple as just hard boiled eggs or as complicated as hard boiled egg with fresh veggies, vitamins, grits, commercial egg food mix etc etc etc.

There are many good egg food recipes on this forum.
Owls, Goulds, European Goldfinch, Red Belly Siskins and Zebs... For now...

that was extremely helpful, Thank you so much!!!
Zebras are Australian so i will make the first mix :)
Hopefully Lux will take to it first and then Lolita will follow in with him. as long as he does it, and it is safe, she will copy.

The chopped up egg will keep in the fridge for a few days, then they start to get sticky and smell. I use them up in 3 or 4 days, after that any left over is thrown down the drain.

I give them egg food 3 to 5x a day (when I'm home), depending on the birds and how much they eat.
When I'm out of the house they get it in the morning and when I come home.

Serve the fresh egg in a flat dish. That way the egg will dry up and not spoil as fast as if it were in a clump or deep dish. Then again, the birds may eat it so fast it won't last.

With only a few birds, start with 1 egg and see how much you use in 3 days. No sense making too much and throwing most of it out.

As the chicks grow, the parents will eat more and more egg, to feed the chicks, so adjust how much egg you feed and have to make by watching how much the parents eat.

Well you would not want to eat mine.
I mix the egg with corn meal and commercial dry egg food.
I use a mini food processor which chops it up nicely. A lot easier and faster than using a knife and fork, which I used in the beginning.

Normally I boil 1 egg more than I plan to use.
My wife gets the white of that egg and I add the yoke to the egg mix.

When you say cornmeal, just the powder or you prepare it? I sere hardboiled egg with seed and fresh fruites and veggies chopped together, sprinkled with seed. I'm also going to buy some mealies for the oc waxbills as they are African.

Powder organic cornmeal from the grocery store.

I put the shelled hardboiled egg into the fridge for a few hours to get some of the moisture out of the egg, so it won't be too moist.
Then when I chop up the eggs I add the cornmeal to absorb more moisture.
I put the egg mix into a plastic container lined w paper towel to absorb more moisture.
