Fawn baby owl possibly?

Post by managermania » Sat Dec 31, 2011 7:00 pm

Take a look at the pics below. There is only one owl baby left from the clutch. The other eggs did not hatch. Does this look like a fawn to you all? Or have they just not darkened up yet? It looks lighter than other ones that I have had. I have another set of 4 owl babies in a nest that I am trying to compare it to, but they are a good bit younger so it's hard to tell.

Chase it looks like it due to the feathering and horn colored beak. Normals have a dark beak. Congratulations!!!!

Definitely a fawn Owl baby--congrats!! Yes, the giveaway is the color of the beak--light with fawns, dark with normals. On this baby, you can even see the fawn feathers coming in.

It was kind of a suprise. I was told when I got the male that it was split to fawn but was not sure until now. So it must be a fawn female. I have an unrelated split male that I will pair her with on down the road.

She was so lonely being by herself. After she fledged, she tried to find a place to sleep. She ended up joining another nest of four normal owls babies that are about the same age as her. I peaked in the nest because I could not find her and she is nestled right in the middle of them.
