My Owl Finches are Home
HI Everyone, I picked up my owl finches yesterday afternoon. I didn't get to really see them till I released them in thier cage. They are so cute and so tiny. I am relieved because I have seen them eat and drink now.
I need to stop and get batteries for my camera and when they settle down I hope to be able to get a good photo of them to post. I can tell already that I am really going to like these guys.

Re: My Owl Finches are Home
Thanks everyone, I thought is was really cute this morning when I put the fresh food plate down in all my cages and it only took the one owl about 30 seconds before it was down there playing in the greens. I had put two nest in the cage before I brought them home. I saw the directions for making the milk carton nest and thought I'd make one just for the fun of it. To my surprise that was the nest they choose to sleep in last night.
I really am not sure yet if I have a pair or not. So far I've only heard the little "meep meep" sounds but behavior wise I have seen one bird, for lack of a better word, mount the other bird. This is the behavior I've seen with my zebra and society pairs. So not being what I consider a experinced bird owner I don't know if this is sexual behavior or a dominance thing for birds. I was kind of hoping for a same sex pair since they are siblings but I guess time will tell. I had asked the breeder what to do if I find myself with m/f pair. She told me to replace each egg laid with a dummy egg and let them sit until they lose interest in the nest. This is something I had done with my zebra pair.
Thier cage is next to the society finches and as soon as they owl flew into their cage the societies all flew over to that side of their cage and hung around for awhile as if to welcome them thier domain.
I am really stuck coming up with some names for them since I really don't know what I have. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to throw them out here.

Lisa I am glad you got your babies home. Aren't they just so much fun to watch. As for the names it will come to you. I have four female zebras and at first I couldn't think of names and then it came to me. Their names are Nini (she's a fighter), Chloe, Lana and Mia. Best of luck.

Re: My Owl Finches are Home
Hi Everyone,
These guys sure don't sit still very long. I've attached the best pictures that I could get of them.
I like the name suggestions and interestingly since I've been calling them Meep and Beep when I talk to them so Meep just might stick but Beep definitely has to be changes.
Now, I keep thinking about the owl I saw at the pet store all by himself and thinking maybe I should bring it home. I guess they can get a little addicting.
