Unidentified hatchlings

Post by TheGrassfinch » Sun Jan 08, 2012 2:39 am

having visited the Cape Town for the past week, and with the financial year end before that, i have not been able to do my usual walk about in the aviaries. I am therefore at a bit of a loss in knowing who the parents are for this trio.

Having some diamond sparrows in the aviary i do not want to disturb in fear that they will abandon the young.

I guess we will see as soon as they have fledged we will be able to see who feeds them.

The little bit of white in the corners of the beak makes me believe that it might be African Silverbills

Early this morning I had an opportunity to sit and watch. The three are the offspring of 2 proud African Silverbill finches. I will post again when they become fledgelings.

2 of the three were out of the nest yesterday. With the weather hinting at thunderstorms and rain, I intervened and put them back in the nest.

They are not crested. Their feathers have not fully unfolded from the sheath around the shaft of the feather.
