Pearl-Headed Silverbills
Just got a pair today. They are so pretty! I've read that they are non-aggressive and easy to breed. I'm just wondering if anyone here has firsthand experience breeding them. They seem near impossible to sex, makes me wonder if I actually got a male/female pair to begin with.
I will take better pictures later, once they settle in.

I have been thinking about getting a pair of Silverbills for some time. I really like how sleek looking they are.
They are beautiful birds to be sure.

I almost bought a pair last year, but picked out lavenders instead. I still would like a pair of pearl headed silverbills. Most waxbills are difficulty to sex and without one laying an egg and the other singing or DNA testing, you have to make your best guess. Good Luck

Thanks! I think I heard one singing today. Hopefully the other is female. They are really charming birds.

wow congrats on the beautiful pair, i have seen a few of them in my time but not many have been this striking, the color and feather condition is great. i hope they give you many beautiful babies and likewise i have also heard they are easy to breed so good luck with them.

Re: Pearl-Headed Silverbills
I have had many pairs of the Pearl-head Amadines. They do not do well in a cage, especially the females. They are much better off in a large flight or aviary.
Mine have bred but females always died a week or so after the eggs hatched. I have no explanation for this. I have a pair I bought from Jan (Texas Pride Aviary) last July and they are in a large aviary and are doing fine. So far there has been no sign of breeding.

Have three pairs of Pearl and I think they are great from the look to personality - They are very easy going finches.

I personally like African silverbills more, but they are still nice looking!
