I forgot that you have to do five posts before you are able to send PMs. Tell us about your setup. You have an incredible variety of finches. Do you have an aviary?

I have a flight cage 7x3x4 - for mix passive one. I post some videos on Youtube. But I need to make some better one.
Straberries are on one flight cage 3x4x3, also Forbes have their own flight cage same size. The Peales parrot finch pair has their own flight cage as well and the male one don't want to share with any except his misstres 8) .
I am thinking of turning a room to Finch room, But not right now.

here is one of the youtube link I recorded via my Android so it is ok. You can find me on youtube

IHave to say the grey finches are great or better than some canaries. It is hard to record them unless I have set up camera system which can do yet. If I don't turn the lights off then finches and canaries are competing- Thanks for watching the youtube videos. Will have more better one on the way :)

Have a great day,

I too looked at some of your videos, looks like your birds are happy and healthy. I would encourage you to try to breed your Strawberries, as they have been in declining numbers, and this seems to be the breeding season for them. Too many Strawberries are now reaching old age for breeding, and that is why they have been declining. Most of mine are getting busy with nests. They seem to love coco fiber to either line a premade nest or build their own (most of mine seem to like to build their own nests in the plastic plants). They also like the small tubular wicker nests.

Mine like my homemade eggfood. I tried offering live mini mealworms to the wild-caught pairs I recently purchased, thinking they would really need live food, but they are ignoring them for my eggfood. Some of them like freeze-dried bloodworms (I use Hikari brand) mixed into the eggfood, but not all do.

I currently have three babies from a pair of wild-caughts from Canada, should fledge this week. I will post photos when they do. I also have two more pairs of wild-caughts sitting, one pair of domestics sitting, and more pairs getting acquainted still.

I do breed in smaller cages, mostly in 40x20x20", the rest in 34x18x18", with one pair per cage. One thing you may find with two pairs in one cage is the two males becoming territorial if they make nests and wanting to go after one another. Also, with two pairs in the same cage, you may have trouble keeping track of parentage of the babies--even with bonded pairs, I don't trust finches to be monogamous.

If you can get some babies out of yours, I would be interested in trading. I do NFSS closed band mine, and look for the same in swaps, as that is the only way to keep track of bloodlines and ages.

Thanks. It is an offshoot of my hobby. Like you it started with a love of finches and breeding some. My birds bred so successfully that I had to figure out a way to find them good homes... so I now open the store 24 hours a week. Still too busy in the aviaries to open full time. It's now just a bigger hobby with the store. :D
I would be interested in getting some strawberries, peales, and grey singers someday. If you ever have excess let me know. These would be for my aviary and not to sell at the store. Maybe their offsprings would be sold someday :D

Best wishes for successful breeding. Sally is the one to get some good pointers from :D
I had them years ago...when they were fairly common kept birds. They bred fairly well... though I did feed wingless fruit flies, mealworms, as well as eggfood. As long as you have reasonably young stock you should have no problems :D
I think the reason so many people have trouble getting them to breed is that they have older birds :? More and more people are breeding them so I am sure there will be young birds to swap and get a good bunch going. With the imports coming in through Canada no worries on too closely bred birds either. Great news in the Strawberry World...... Now if someone can get started with the pekin Robins
