Looking At Gouldian Hens ??

Post by ranchnanny » Sat Jan 14, 2012 3:33 pm

I found a gal here on the ranch where I live that is selling Lady Gouldians. She sent me a photo of a hen but it looks like a male although it does have a lilac breast. What are your thoughts??

For a novice like me, hens "usually" look more scruffy looking than the males, but there are exceptions. I have a few hens that their head colors are so clean that they look just like males.
The more knowleded breeders have other things that they look at to determine sex.

Yep...she's a hen with a very nice mask :D not all hens get such good size and coloring to their mask so I would grab her :!:

I will be going over to her place tomorrow around 4 to look the hens over. The majority of her birds are last years birds.
I don't think $50 each is to bad. If I get two I will send pics asap.... Thanks all for you input =D>

$50 is a good price and last years birds means they are ready to make this year's chicks

yup she is definitely a she, males will not usually have a mixed color mask like that and by the looks of it her feathers are in amazing condition. $50 would be a steal here so congratulations
