First time parents

Post by JohnBoy » Tue Jan 17, 2012 1:40 pm

My male RH, PB dilute male and female OH, PB, GB have their first clutch that are almost ready to take the leap. There are five in the nest. Their feathers are so silvery?? Is this color normal for this pair?

If the parents are split to blue and you may have some silvers in there :!:
However, It looks to me like there are some yellowish feathers on the back...hard to see from this photo. I would say that one is a yellow hen as is the one underneath her and the one to the left. The one to the bottom right is a dilute...like Dad. Congratulations on new chicks :D

The baby on the top of the pile is definitely a yellow - I can see the yellow in the feathers :)
I see two little yellow girls and a dilute boy - I can't tell if there's any other babies besides those three though :)
Maybe another yellow girl off to the left hidden by the nest box front?

If you go to the genetic calculator and insert the parents information it will tell you what the color chicks and sex of them are... with Johnboy's pair (hen green back, male single factor yellow back) the only yellow birds will be hens. Hen's only need one factor to be yellow... if the male gets one factor of yellow then it will be a dilute or proper term single factor yellow. For males to show yellow they need 2 factors. To show lemon/ lime yellow they need one factor of yellow and a white breast or a lilac breat.
