Fire Finch Identification Help Please

Post by Teresa » Wed Jan 18, 2012 10:36 am

I have been reading the posts on these finches and am totally confused now. I've had these finches for a few months and would really appreciate it if someone could look at my pictures and tell me if I have true pairs or if they are a mix of subspecies. I bought what I have labeled "pair I" and the female from "pair II" from Ishmael Rosado from St Louis and he said they were imported. I don't know how old they are. Pair # 1 was mated when I got them and Pair # 2 has mated since. I have 2 male Blue Bills too (at least that's what I was told they were and they sure look alike) Here's some pictures - can someone give me thier scientific names? I'd sure appreciate it.

thank you Ray, after looking at the pictures I think the pairs are true male and female Black Faced and the 2 males I have are the Jameson's.

Thanks Candace, the 1st pair has built a fantastic nest and laid 2 clutches but all were infertile. The hen is a very dedicated sitter. The 2nd pair can't figure out how to get the nest right, they keep trying though. I may need to put more leaves around it.
