Btw it is interesting how they have different tail bars. I agree the buff colour in the tail of the female looks like she is isabel. But what about the male, do you think he is maybe Fawn OB? What do FF chicks usually look like? The same as isabel chicks?

FF males look like the the father FF, the cheeks are a hint in the nest, though I have had them come out looking like females then color up to males. I had very dilute silver I thought was a female until it molted and it was a light colored male.

Ok...did pictures with the camera and with the phone with lighting above...the male is funny because depending how it sits in the light the lacing looks either fawn or has an orange tint. I think with certain fawn colors the brown has an orange pigment since brown is made up of an orange coloring. So it can be the light playing of of the color pigments.

The father was paired with another female a fawm isabel, the babies were ok nothing as nice as this boy or female, the babies are bigger also. the female fledgling looks isabel, nicely colored, the male may be a FS fawn...or ????? He still has to color out completely and FF and FS are a bit slower than normals.

Yes the male is clearly lighter than what I first thought. I was wondering about Fawn because his tails and tear seemed to be dark brown. Not sure what he might be But I do wonder if it is some kind of silvery fawn mix like you said.

But the female is so very pretty Looks similar to my chick, though mine is missing the tail bars and white by the beak.

Are you thinking of keeping them both?

The male offspring still needs to molt and color up more...the cheeks should be a rich orange color on silvers unless he is dilute, but I don't think that is the case since the tear is dark.

I will keep both and the parents will remain a couple, especially after these two young, the chicks are better marked and bigger than even my original FSmale and Isabel hen.

How cute... they remind me of some I handfed a couple of years ago. I had a colony of zebs set up in one of the outdoor aviaries. When I captured all the flyers and broke the aviary down for a new species I found chicks in nest..of course with colony breeding who knows what the parents were...so can't help you with how I got that color... but they sure are pretty. This is a photo of them, the 2 on the right.

Ameza, I don't know if this helps but the parent to the father, the FF are an Isabel female & Florida Silver male (bought from a friend, the background unknown). They in the past have given off FF males, Isabels, Fawn Isabels, silver female isabels.

The parents to the mother are Mother from John's stock, the father is Patches he is split to BB and a lightback, the female is a normal...they have given me silvers, fawn females, lightback males, normal females.

The father to the mother may have been split to BB also because when offspring from him had the BB hourglass in the tail...his origin is unknown since I bought him from a friend.

The couple have produced the offspring in the pictures and now it is a waiting game to see what the feathering will result in.

Either way these are two of the better offspring in my FS, FF and Isabel collection.

They look very different in the different lighting. They look like either silver or fawn isabel to me. As you point out, as the feathers mature the true identity will be revealed. This is one thing I love about zebras... always unique chicks popping out of eggs
My chicks turned from cream, tan and red to silver isabels mutts when they were done coloring out. I never bred them so don't know what else they may have carried in their genes. But I loved the males detailed spotted flanks. Their colors can change a lot sometimes. It will be intersting to see what your chicks do.

The Grandmother, mother to the father

a dilute FSilver, he never got the deep silver color and his cheek patches remained very dilute....he is the grandson to the FS and Isabel pictured above, same father as the chicks in this thread, different mother (I split the original pair of FF male and Isablel , 2nd generation due to the dilute coloring)

Well I keep pondering. The female is no question really, she looks like Fawn Isabel to me, maybe split OB considering the orange lacing in her wings.

But the male...really he puzzles me. His black markings are far too dark to be fawn or grey isabel. Since I don't have experience with the FF mutation, can FS have dark markings?
I am still thinking about some kind of Fawn OB mix.

I guess we might just have to wait and see how he looks when he molts compleatly.

The puzzle is really in the mothers background, her father's genetics are unknown. The young may be split to OB, his tear is reduced in color....Once I clear some of the young from other pairs out, I am moving the family to a larger cage and let them try again. Who knows what they will have next! They are good parents and very protective over their weaned chicks.

I am thinking of breeding my pair again as well, but I am going to have foster parents standing by when I do that.
