Diablo Brothers aka Strawberry Finch Males!!
I had to take the Diablo brothers out of the aviary this morning!
The two little terrorists, terrorized everybody but the Green singers; they know better than to do that!
This morning I finally saw my Red headed parrot finches doing the deed; the male was treading the hen and she was making a baby chick sound!
My Red cheek cordon blues are home shopping and checking out the nest baskets I put in; so they are getting into the swing of things!
My Geeen singers eggs should start hatching on Friday!
So that is why the Diablo brothers had to be moved, so the others can do their thing!
Fingers crossed!

I have the two together in a canary breeding cage for now.
Should I separate them later?

I have three male strawberry finches in my aviary and no problems ever with them.... they are super sweet!!!
I don't think I would seperate them if the two of them are getting along. They love to be together......

I really don't understand why they turned into unholy terrors?!?!
The poor Cordon blues had no peace!
Now I hope they can get settled and finish the nest they started ?
I will keep the Diablo brothers together then.
Hopefully soon I can find a hen or two?
I am willing to trade one of them for a hen!

It seems that if your lucky enough to find this species there are always more males than hens....

I think you did the right thing to pull those males from the aviary. You have to protect the other breeding pairs and their nests, so any birds that won't get along have to be removed from the aviary. Maybe since you had the other birds paired up, mating, nesting, etc., that set off the territorial instincts in the Berry males. And it does seem to be breeding season for them, my males are coloring up and my hens are dropping eggs.

Don't leave them alone in that cage too long without female mates or they will redecorate and open up an antiques place next door... and then you'll never get babies.

Glad to hear you're getting some problems resolved for your pairs... that's a big deal!
I know I've studied some of my pairs for long periods before I figure out a solution to an ongoing problem sometimes...
Keep us informed! Love you to have a Strawberry hen and maybe get a clutch of them going we need more.
