couple of ronex questions

Post by Ria » Sat Jan 28, 2012 10:14 am

Hi everybody, I just started treating my flock with ronex 6% today. I've never used it before, so i've got some questions. I doubled the dosage to make 12%, and gave it in all their drinking cups. I removed the bath dishes entirely for today.

1 - can they bathe safely in this? I can't stop minimal bathing in the drinking cups, but is it ok to fill their baths with it too?

2 - should I mix fresh preparations daily, or can extra be refrigerated?

3 - for probiotics afterward, is a seed mix (kaytee fortidiet prohealth is what I have on hand) ok to give, or should I have something different? if the seed is ok, should that be the sole diet for those few days? normally, at least half their daily diet is lafeber's pellets.

Thanks in advance for any help! =D> this forum is such a great resource!

You are doing fine....they may bathe in it, put when giving probiotics (by Morning Bird is mainly used after antibiotics but you can give it after ronex if you want but it is not vital you do so) Probiotics if you use it will leave a stick residue if they splash it about, so you may need to wipe the bars down a bit. You seed and pellets are fine.

They will be fine without veggies for the week, you can give them eggfood. You want them to only have the treated water as their main source of hydration. After Ronex you can resume their regular diet of veggies and seed and eggfoods.

I make mine (ronex) up in a quart container or 2 quart container depending on how many birds I treat...it can be put in the fridge, when you pour it in the cup let it sit out a bit so it is not to cold when you offer it. I pour it out about 30 minutes before I change out the old cup.

Oh! :o Guess I was under the impression that ronex is an antibiotic, so I thought probiotics would be necessary. I once lost a hen after antibiotic treatment because I didn't know about probiotics.

Thank you for your advice Cindy!
