Re: Cuban Melodious Finches AT LAST !!!
Oh WOW! I would love to have a pair, I only saw them once here in St. Louis at a fair..I think the pairs were $350..out of my price range, so I got the green singers. One day though.
I though I read they can be aggressive in mixed aviary? is that info correct?

Re: Cuban Melodious Finches AT LAST !!!
They look beautiful!!!
Just gives lots of privacy and try giving them the egg food concoction you have been giving your other birds. LinOntario (Liz) and lovemyfinch (Janine) keep and breed these species. I think MLaRue (Misty) and dfcauley (Donna) have them in their aviaries as well. Good luck and congrats!

God is my redeemer and it is through Him I have found eternal happiness. I am grateful, I am blessed, and I am truly loved. I wish all this and more for all members of our finch forum family. May you all be blessed and highly favored.

Re: Cuban Melodious Finches AT LAST !!!
I do have a pair and they are very sweet and bonded. I have heard terrible things about the males being mean, but I have never had any agression out of mine. Unfortunately they have not produced any babies for me yet. They have had eggs (beautiful little speckled eggs), but they were not fertile. Hopefully someday......
Congrats! Give them as much space and privacy as you can. They especially need lots of space in my opinion.

Mine are in my aviary with all the other birds. They have never been agressive even when breeding. I suppose it all depends on the birds and perhaps the space you are able to give them.
I love their little personalities!! I have a couple of gouldians that are 10 times MEANER than these cubans.

I fed mine lots of egg food and they bred quite easily !Paradise Aviary wrote:Thank you JerryBigBear0007 wrote:Nice man, nice!

JerryI really hope I get lucky with them. I'm sorry your tossed so much. Did you do anything in specific to maybe get them into breeding condition ?? And did you notice any visible change in them that may be a sign that they are in breeding condition ??
You know they ready to breed when the male feeds the hen and carries material, the males are great builders!
You have bigger cages, so you should do better than I did!

Re: Cuban Melodious Finches AT LAST !!!
Congratulations on getting a beautiful pair of Cubans! You'll enjoy them to no end.
I agree on total privacy - meaning NO nest checks for the first couple of ...years! Mine are now used to me and I can check and band any time at all. I now have 2 unrelsted pairs and each pair are in their own cage and build their own nest with cocofibres. My Cubans will not use a prefab nest but are fantastic parents.
Good luck!
