Black Zebra Finch
I was wondering is there a completely black mutation?
After raising a crap load of zebras 5 years ago I kind of lost interest in raising Zebras. But if there is a black variety available then I'm interested.

Re: Black Zebra Finch
I think also when you have triple black, BB BF BC you get almost black birds.
Then there are Charcoals but I know they are an austrilian mutation so I don't know if they are elsewhere.
Here is a picture of a black zebra finch from the Netherland show, not sure what mutation this is though.

And another, would not be surprised if this one is triple black.

Re: Black Zebra Finch
I believe Garrie Landry breeds them
here is his site,
http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewZebra/Zebra.html
Roy Beckham
http://www.efinch.com/
http://www.efinch.com/varieties.htm
Roy has efinch on Facebook also and has a wide following....you can join and see if any of the friends have what you are looking for in your area. http://www.facebook.com/zebrafinch
Once in a while we see them pop up on ebayclassifieds, they are slightly pricey.

Re: Black Zebra Finch
George, what kind of set-up will you have. One thing you should keep in mind about Eumos is that they have a feather abnormality which prevents them from flying distances. From what I have read, they do fine in breeder type cages, but would have difficulty in larger set-ups.
Dante, how does your uncle have his set up?

Re: Black Zebra Finch
they are in breeding cages, with two perches, nests, and food cups, the hens are both split males are full. He has both hens in a flight cage and they fly normal, just like other zebras, but they are only splits so that may be why. I have heard of the "lethal" gene but I honestly see no problems in my uncles, but i'd like to learn more about it.

I read Garrie Landry's page on them. Glad to know they are here in the U.S.

Re: Black Zebra Finch
No there isn't anyone close to me that I know of. But yesterday I bought a pair of Combassou finches along with some other species. I chose a male that is (for now ) almost completely black. So for now I'm good. Maybe one day I may move forward and get a couple from Garrie if I still have the space. I'm considering a pair of Cuban Melodious this week.cindy wrote:Have you found any breeders that carry them near you?
