First time using Ronex

Post by Bluebonnet » Sun Feb 05, 2012 2:20 pm

Ok, so today I started the 7 day Ronex treatment for all my finches.

First of all though, a reminder to all to actually check that you received the right items. I ordered the 3 oz size of 12% strength. I received a 6 oz size of 6% strength. I guess it's a wash? :?

Should I follow the directions on the back, or am I supposed to double everything since it's the 6%? Right now their medicated water is per the directions for the higher dose (suggested 5x, I mixed 4x) for the 1st three days. Hope that made sense.

Also, does the medication stay suspended in their water for a long while for twice daily water changes, or should I change out their medicated water more frequently?

Double the amount of powder, to the same amount of water, if using the 6%

Nelissa is right doubling the powder to one times the water is the correct dose for finches. I make it up in a big 2 quart container and but the extra in the fridge. I change out water once a day unless some need it more often. Restrict their water intake to just what is in their cups...no baths or greens/veggies for the course the ronex.

Thank you. To be sure I understand, dose the 6% Ronex as follows:

4-5 tsps per 2 quarts for days 1-3
1 tsp per 2 quarts for days 4-7

You can do that or just double the powder for the whole time...if your birds aren't showing signs of issues then doubling it should be fine.

Usually they say to 3 to 4 times the powder for the first few days if the birds are symptomatic or you have a difficult case of parasites.

Thanks Cindy for pointing out about not serving veggies during the course, but ... :? ... I still am not sure what the dose is.

Should I do 2 tsp per 2 quarts for 7 days?

tell me what the 6% reads...how to mix it

http://www.finchniche.com/product_ronex6.php
states for the 6% to use 1/2 teaspoon to 2 quarts

to double it for finches would be

1 teaspoon to 2 quarts (2 parts 6% to 1 part water)

if you have a stubborn case of parasites the dose would be 2 teaspoons to 2 quarts

It reads: Add 1/2 tsp of Ronex to 2 quarts of clean drinking water and adminsiter for 7 days. Use as bird's only source of drinking water. For particularly difficult infections, increase dose to 5 times normal for 3 days then continue with normal dose for 4 days.

I thought I would do the increased dose for 3 days in case they have any infections, but will not if that's not advised.

Thank you for your patience.

It is safe at a higher dose for the first 3 days. Usually if my birds are not showing signs I do the normal dose of 12%, it depends on where they came from. I have dosed a few birds at the higher dose for the 3 days since the conditions they came from were unknown, like as in a rescue.

Many, many thanks, Cindy. If the supplier would have shipped me the 12% I ordered to begin with it would have been less confusing. Oh well, at least I understand now. :D
