At the top of that page, second section down it states the female should be at least 1 yr old, male can be 10 months old....

Look at the section titled "Here are some points to consider before breeding".

Are you asking if their beaks change color like gouldians?

then go to "conditioning javas for breeding" on the same page....you'll see the part about them getting excited, juming from branch to branch, their eas get brighter as they get excited.

The one picture of their undersides of their beaks...the male is on our left from what I see.

looks like a male and female but hard to absolutely tell in Javas (and others) until courting starts

Do male and female Java's bicker? Ive seen them a few times fencing with their beaks, then one flys off to another perch...could be the size cage they are in as well..its pretty small.

I have seen this fencing movement when hens that do not want to breed get courted by males, the males fight because they want to and the hens fight because they are not ready

hmm well wonder if thats the case. the "male" doesnt have the bulbing on his beak...I think they will be alot happier once I get a larger cage!

Dee they can....as Dante said they dual with closed beaks, I've seen them bicker and mae noises at each other.

I think you are right..the close confines may be a bit to close, they will be happier in a larger flight. Also the male may be more mature than the female and she may not be ready just yet to accept his advances.

Cindy- Thanks for the info.

They only seem to do this if one jumps onto the same perch as the other, or goes to eat at the same time the other one does. I think its more a case of cage size....as Ive said its a budgie cage. So I think its more, lack of space, hence the fighting.
I will be getting a large cage at the end of the week.

The cage size most likey is it...once you get them in a bigger cage and if it continues there may be a slight chance one may be a very young male....usually you do not see the aggression in pairs like that. It is almost territorial. Are you getting a larger cage soon?

Mine make the same noise they do when entering the nest during these battles, my BB male did it to my BCCCFW for hours before she let him court
