I wasn't referring to the black seed, just certain seeds in general

For all of my finches including the goulds I mix canary tonic seed with finch mix and add in red panicum seeds during the breeding season. I also mix in a product called greens and grains, which has a higher protein content. I dont have to ration the parrot finches because their flight is 30 ft long, so obesity is not a problem. I never put my finches on an austerity diet as such but do not provide the quantity of live food outside of breeding for the finches that consume it. I restrict the soft foods off breeding cycle in most cases. Mine seem to breed and thrive on this combination so I am happy to mix both products. As always waste is an issue but the finches become very selective when there is endless food available to them.

My baby Goulds fledged 12/29; their mom looked pretty scruffy after that but is coming along; I think she is moulting, but does have bald patches on her head. I am still feeding egg food and tons of greens. They go wild over the greens; can't get enough. When can I consider the babies "grown up" and when should I discontinue egg food (mashed hard boiled eggs w/shells)?????????

@Dolly
If you have not separated the juvs from the parents, about a month after they wean I would separate them. This is so you can control the diet of each. The juvs will start to molt into their adult feathers about a month or so after weaning. Then for the nest 3-6 months they will be molting in their adult feathers. During that time, you should keep up the egg food to the juvs, at least 3x a week if not every day.

Once the parents are done breeding for the season, max 3 clutches, stop the egg food.
When you see the parents molting, then give them egg food every day.
