Re: Grape Vine Perches?
They stop growing in the winter, and sprout leaves and start again in spring in my backyard. I will be sure they are clean. I just got two more, one Y shaped, and the othernlike a V, but has a nub at the tip were I can attatch a bolt

There are tick ines for 8$ on amazon for cockateils, mine are more of a finch size so I will sell them 1-5$ depending on size. But of course FF members get a 50% discount.

Don't sell them too cheap - remember that your supply of vines will be limited each year, and it takes some time to find the right part of the vine, clean it, and buy and add the hardware. Thinner perches for finches shouldn't necessarily be so much less than the ones for big birds. Let folks know they are getting quality natural perches from local sustainable sources!
Just my 2 cents.

I use grapevines for perches, but don't attach any hardware. Just put them thru the cage bars on one side & thru the cage bars on the other; hold with clips on the outside; or if they're long enough (& thick enough) they can just stick thru the bars. I don't peel the bark off. I leave the "tendrils" on too.

I must look into the cost of the hardware. I have about 20 so far, the sizes and length vary. I peeled off a different amount of layers in random places, so it is still smooth, and looks jeat but has a bunch of different shades running throuh them, looks nice.

Re: Grape Vine Perches?
if you tie the grape vines perches in a tight bundle and attach them longways to the side and back of the aviary, the birds will breed in them. I am making up some edxtra bunches of branches for the red headed stars at the moment so I will post some pics. If you make them strong enough the emblemas will breed in them. Not sure if I mentioned this but I have a number of various birds nesting at the moment. I use handfulls of white feathers chucked in the aviary. Cordons-fire finches-orange breasted waxbills and the red faced parrot finches love them.

Re: Grape Vine Perches?
This grapevine goes all the way across the indoor aviary

I just stick the ends through the wire and stretch it out

This one just hangs from a hook and makes a great bungee swing

Re: Grape Vine Perches?
For thick ones you can attach screws with washers and butterfly nut. You can either drill a hole and glue the shank or I like the double threaded shanks, wood screw on one half and machine thread on the other.
Here are a few whopper grapevines I sell at the store. These are really nice to bolt to the top of the cage and let hang down...or bolt so that it mounts on top like a play paerch when outside the cage...of course for the bigger birds

The smaller ones are cut into different lenght sand smaller bolts are used

Re: Grape Vine Perches?
The really big ones $25 the smaller ones start at $2... the empty pegs on the right (sold out)...they are the finch size then $3, $4, up to $5 for the thick ones. I have super reasonal prices on these type perches.. I get them for a really good price so I can pass the savings on
I have a bunch of scuppernong and muscadines growing at one of my renatl properties that need a good pruning... Think I will make some more bungee swings and running vines to sell at the store .. if I can find the time to go cut some
