Do Finches Need Grit?

I also use a mix that contains fine shell grit ,crushed charcoal,crushed cuttlebone,cooked egg shells, PVM POWDER and BIOCAL.
I also hang peices of cuttlebone in the aviary ,the birds love it.

My birds love Biocal and PVM from the APC. I also buy a mineral pic block and those bells you hang on the side of cages- the ones with iodine and calcium from "tweeta bird products online". I wrap them in a towel and smash them with a hammer (remove the wire) until they grind up. The birds love it.

as long as it is natural with no chemical additives it should be fine-you need to check the labelling for that

Thanks. the label does say wood charcoal, nothing else. It does look like black wood from the bag, but think I'll play it safe and purchase some charcoal. Appreciate all your information.

Painted Finches will often take peices into their nest.
I did hear of a theory is that they no it absorbs moisture from the nest....
