I have never seen them at my petsmart, my uncle knows somebody who breeds them.

I see them from time to time at the PetSmart but people in this area are starting to advertise when they are looking for a BCCB or RCCB which tells me they are becoming more rare here, too.

I still have my original pairs and have been waiting for them to reproduce faithfully with no live food. So far, not a lot of luck. :?

I love the CB's... it would be a terrible loss were they to become unavailable to the finch fancier. :(

I too am having a very hard time finding a breeder of BCCB. I have a lone male and am dying to find him a mate. My local petsmart only sell RCCB so I know better then to buy one as it would be a hybrid. I do have a question though....what does happen if you were to breed a BCCB with a RCCB ? Are the offspring fertile or infertile ? I have been studying the differences between the the bccb and the rccb hens so in the case I do find one I dont get had by a bad sales person/breeder.

I have seen the Blue Capped often at PetSmart, but I suppose they are raised on their "bird farms"
They have more RCCB. I bought my RCCB at my local bird fair. :P

I am too in love with my little blue cap boy to even consider selling him plus my hubby would divorce me cuz he is his favorite bird...... Anyhows I may have found a breeder that is gonna be at our spring show on april 28th. I am waiting for them to get back to me to see if they have any so I can pre-order one and pick it up at the show verses having it shipped in.

Here is his list of available birds... anyone ever heard of him ?

Chase, please post the next time you'll be doing a mart in ATL. I'm in Charlotte and would definately make the trip for some Bccb! I know you posted last time.. I just didn't catch it in time. I can't find anything but the rccbs around here either.
Thanks! Taylor

It will probably be July until the BCCB's are ready to go again.

Are they very hard to breed ? I read that they need lots of live food or they abandon the babies ? Is this true ?

Different people have different results.
I do lots of live food on mine. They tossed at first but do really well now.

Dante, this past summer i saw a pair at markhiems on sheridan drive in tonawanda. the summer before last i was in burlington new jersey and saw some at bird paradise there---man i loved that bird paradise, it was kinda like visiting the mother of all bird stores. this summer i am going to atlantic city to check out the board walk and maybe see if lady luck will favor me at the slots--ha ha but i could not go that way without stopping by bird paradise again ---because it is just so much fun to look at all the different species that are there.

markhiems does carry a variety of finchs here and there throughout the year---i go there maybe every month or two just to see whats there.

right now i,m not looking for anything special, but i just like to look.
2 society, 2 zebra, 2 spice, 2 lady gouldians, and one very much loved african grey who i converse with much.

It is a very wonderful thing indeed, when you become friends with those that wear feathers and eat seed.

I'm sorry, but I find it a little questionable that this breeder (maybe broker) has Purple Grenadiers, Strawberries, and all those other Asian and African species? But especially the PG's and Strawberries. I'm thinking his list is outdated, personally. Let us know what he says. Good luck!

He told me couples weeks ago that He does not have Gren nor Strawberries. Some breeders will leave those birds on to Catch the customers - online web sale tips [-X

There was a post about this JR breeder- and the members PM each other. I did not see the positive outcome. I wish I could remember the post subject.
