*then pair the visual fawn BC from the first pair with a male BC/fawn from the second pair, I should get....

It will be interesting to see your pairs offspring. My fawns are dark so I am wondering if I will see the dark fawn in the offspring as well.

Re: Future Zebra Mutation Project!
Are you doing fawn cheek to black cheek or just fawn (back) to black cheek?
the fawn cheek to BC can prove interesting....
the fawn to BC look a little like this, the brown of the fawn will dilute some of the black

Re: Future Zebra Mutation Project!
I bred a black cheek male to a black cheek female and to my surprise got two BC fawn females. Obviously the BC male was split to fawn and I didn't know it. They were both beautiful birds and you will be happy with the combo when you get it. Unfortunately both of those birds were lost in the fire. I do still have the parents though and may breed them again to hopefully get more fawn black cheeks.

Re: Future Zebra Mutation Project!
Lori, I am so sorry for your loss. Hope things are improving for you. This must have been such a trying time for you and your family.
I had a chance to see fawn Black cheek at a breeders home, they actually bought BC from me to create a few different lines.
I have also seen them elsewhere, beautiful birds. The plan I outlined will eventually give me fawns BC and splits to work with. My fawns are very dark and I am hoping that will be passed onto the fawn BC.
Lori, were yours dark fawn or was it light?

Re: Future Zebra Mutation Project!
But then how will the first pair (fawn male with bc hen) produce 50% bc/fawn males and 50% bc fawn hens??

50% Black cheeked /Fawn Males
50% Black cheeked Fawn females
Fawn is sexed linked, if the father is fawn then he produce fawn females the offspring males will be normals/ BC fawns the fawn is passed on by the visual father as a split
You can not get visual fawns unless the mother is fawn.
same result as if you are combining a fawn male and gray female
50% Fawn Females
50% Normal/Fawn Males
BC recessive fawn sex linked
The second pair the males will be split to fawn.

I understand the fawn, but how will you get black cheek if the dad is fawn and mom is bc?

Re: Future Zebra Mutation Project!
The daughter is visual fawn and because the BC gene is recessive all the offspring inherit the BC gene.

Re: Future Zebra Mutation Project!
Remeber sex linked is carried by the father and recessive is passed to all offspring from either or both of the parents.
in combining black and orange they resist each other and black in this case wins out. The fawn (black is removed already in the mutation) and adding black (BC) back in black shows up.
