Village Weavers
Village Weavers
Does anyone have any experience with village weavers? There were 5 or 6 at a store near me. They were much bigger than I expected.

How aggressive are they? Can they live with others or other species?

Re: Village Weavers
I have done some reading on them. They were bred in an aviary in LA. The oldest mmale lived to he 24. The other ranged from 9-18 before passing. They havr generally small clutches of 2-3 eggs, but 4 or 5 does happen and they are polygynous. They eat seeds and grain, and should he bred in groups. They are noisy. It is reccomended to give live food and increase when they are breeding. They can be mixed with other weavers, and similiar birds. They need many nests, but will huild one if provided with a plant/tree and nesting material. Incubation is 11-12 days, and they can start fledging at 17 days
but can stay in the nes until 20 days. They have two breeding seasons: September-October and January-February. They should live in minimum flocks of 10. Males will court with up to 5 hens. A big mix, but wrote as I found stuff along the way

I have an entire book on them, around 275 pages, if you have any questions I can skim to that section!
