Thanks for the breakdown, Dante, but I'm not sure I understand it. Does the 1st one mean it would look normal with black cheeks, and be split to pied. And the 2nd one means it would look normal and be split to pied? So no visual pied ones?

/ means split so anything past the / is not visual. They will will look normal, and be split to those traits. Birds split to pied have white flight feathers and under there chin. Ask any question you want!

Oh, Ok, I think I've got it now, thanks. Bummer, though. Was assuming they'd produce visual pieds at the least. But they're still a handsome and fun pair, so I suppose I can live with that. :D

 they eill have some white, but not alot. Some may have none at all. If you can get a BC biy and a pied girl, then you can make new pairs. Did you keep you silver zebras from the first 10?

Linda, pied and BC are recessive, recessive is passed onto the young by one parent or both. Often a bird can either show signs of being split or look normal and be split.

Example your pied male x NG split BC

The offspring will inherit pied from dad and BC from mom. They will be splits for both traits. Pied splits often will have white under the chin, top of the head and white wing edges. Some show no signs at all.

BC splits show a wider tear and a faint chest bar as your girl does or show one of those signs.

So in the offspring you may get split pieds with the white markers, pretty.

Thank you, Cindy. I appreciate the explanation said in another way. I take everyone's way of explaining and put them together and then it eventually clicks. :D

@ Rour - Thank you. :D

@ Dante - I do still have the silver male (or whatever it was determined he was) and a normal male. They're Oscar and Felix, caged together and getting along fabulously, so I really don't want to rock that boat. [-X :)

Of the 10 zebras I started out with, I have 4 left ... Oscar & Felix, the girl that was badly plucked, and the baby that was plucked nearly bald. Here are some pics I just took:

The baby
Image

The baby being camera shy, but can better see the white on the wing edges

The baby again, with better view of dark chest hair (excuse the squinty eye)
Image

The girl wanted me to go away

Here she is again, ready to bolt
Image

Oscar and Felix (Tip: a bungee cord makes a great perch)

Oscar and Felix looking extra adorable

Sorry for the picture overload, but I'm having FUN!!

I enjoy them!! Your baby also looks split to black cheek!!!!!!! And pied, if you get a male offspring from you newer pair, breed it to the baby girl to get pied BC! And your silvers look florida silver to me.

Hmm. Something to think about, maybe. It definitely has a certain appeal. One thing, though, is she has a bum foot and it was advised that I not breed her because of it. Her mom had a foot that looked similar. All her siblings from mom's other clutches had normal feet. So I'm not really sure if it was advised against because it might be passed down, or if the thought was she's not in good health, top form, or whatever.

I don't thinkbit is genetics, just bad past ownership. If she can get around well I am sure she will be fine

I'm so impressed! That baby with the squinted eye - is it winking at me? lol Wouldn't it be great to have a magazine with all these great pictures! We should start a magazine, what do you think? :)

Thank you, Roula. Hmm. Maybe she is :wink:ing. A magazine sounds like a cool idea, as long as it's only published every 4-6 months. It takes me a lot of tries to get just a few decent pictures. You would need to take up the slack. :-" I'm hoping to get a chance this weekend to look at the camera manual to see what the different settings mean.
