hey everyone, i am about to buy a shed (8x6) and am making my own cages for inside, just wondered the birds wont need any climate control will they? it will be naturally lit, nothing too posh, just cages in a shed. They wont freeze in winter or bake in summer, will they? thanks a lot for reading (:

I breed all of those in my Sig joe....and more besides.
I know it's a pain but with foreign finches I would insulate your shed for winter...then for an 8x6 get a 120 watt tubular heater to keep it reasonable in winter...cheap to run.It won't get hot, but it will keep the chill out.
You must have opening windows for summer...even in England a shed can get very hot.
Painting the inside white can make a big difference when it comes to light.
It's also advisable in winter to extend feeding time with lighting to around 15 hours a day.There are many types of fancy lighting some breeders swear by,but I do ok just using ordinary energy saving bulbs.

You ask 'hard to breed' Joe...that depends,some years better than others.There's no cast iron formula,but basically.Don't crowd the birds and give them privacy when breeding...the less you interfere the better the odds.Some birds will tolerate you being nosy...others won't.
But the best laid plans can still go wrong...that's finch breeding for you.
There's a lot to learn...don't buy fancy expensive birds until you have learned on the easier to raise species.They're all fascinating to watch breed no matter the rarity or cost.
