Breeding Season

Post by dan3042 » Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:54 pm

Hi
I recently(1month ago or mayby a bit more) bought four gouldian finches(2m/2f). They have 2 breding boxes in the cage. Today, they are showing more interest in these boxes and are quite a bit chirpier. I added some extra breeding material in small bunches around the cage(some was already in boxes for a month) and they have been playing with this a bit too.

When is breeding season for the gouldians in Australia(NSW)?
Does This sound like breeding is not far from happening?

Thanks......any other help is appreciated.

Gouldians breed after the wet season when food is plentiful.
You can breed Gouldians year-round if you want as long as they have 15 hours of light...artifical or otherwise.

In the Southern Hemisphere gouldians breed from March to August, but most breeders here have encouraged their birds to summer breed, pairing them up as early as December.

I have not had success with mine, but they really started showing interest the last 2 weeks in March and laid 2 eggs so it is definitely the natural breeding time for them now.
