weird beak?

Was carefully inspecting all my birds last night and discovered that my male RCCB's beak looks absolutely terrible. Any thoughts?

Looks like he's growing out a new beak. Do you have a pedi-perch in the cage beside the drinking water?

To me,it looks as though the beak was broken,when it tried to heal,it got to long..who knows? Maybe a vet can trim it..

A while back I purchased a very young red cheek like that. The beak quickly wore down and it wasn't a problem. The aviary that he lived in has a concrete floor which I think helped as he chased and ate runaway mealworms off of it!
I also have trimmed beaks that were overgrown or grew slightly sideways with nail clippers.

Also,.try rouh.natural perches. I had a zebra, his beak started to grow like that, I gave him a new perch with rouh bark (and cuddlebone, usually only for my hens and breeding pairs) and he wore it down himself right away

Do birds grow out new beaks? I don't have a pedi perch. Are those recommmended? Are they the wavy ones that seem to be made of concrete or something? Right now I've been battling mites so he is in a small hospital cage that can be disinfected daily. He seems fine but man it looks bad.

Hee hee... runaway mealworms. Man - I'm so terrified thats going to happen on my hardwood.

I think I will just watch and wait. I'm glad no ones seems to think it's a bad sign. I did clip his bottom mandible (do they call them that in finches?) about 3 weeks ago. It had grown way out past the top one and was a tiny sliver. Do you think there is a nutrient deficiency or too much of something to cause it?

If you uave a file, (or a pedi paws dog and cat nails would be easier,) you file it down without the risk of damage

I do not reccomend the dog pedi filer..
I suggest IF you decide to file it,only go tohalf of where it started and use a good old metal filer
