I've had parrots for 18+ years, and finches for the past 4 years.

Zupreem was the way to go for Parrots until I really looked into it. SUGAR is one of the MAIN INGREDIENTS in Zupreme. Birds don't eat sugar in the wild, save for natural sugars via fruits.

Ditto on CeDe eggmix. SUGAR as well as a main ingredient. No wonder most birds love the stuff, they're getting hooked on Sugar just as humans do.

No thanks for me. Seeds, millets, fresh veggies, fruits, worms for my flock.

-Steve

Pretty Bird contains BHT, others use dried beet pulp...I've used Zupreem and Roudybush for years and have not had an issue. My Grey hd blood panels drawn nd he ws fine....the tiny bit of sugar is far out weighed by the other benefits within the food.

Roudybush is another I use and highly recommend.
Ground Corn, Ground Wheat, Soy Meal, Soy Oil, Calcium Carbonate, Dicalcium Phosphate, Salt, DL-Methionine, L-Arginine, Niacin, Mixed Tocopherols, Rosemary Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid, Lecithin, Silicon Dioxide (carrier for liquid antioxidants), Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (source of Vitamin E), Ascorbic Acid, Manganese Sulfate, Yucca shidigera Extract, Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate, Dried Yeast, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Zinc Oxide, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Acetate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Vitamin K), Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Cyanocobalamin (source of Vitamin B12), Sodium Selenite (on Calcium Carbonate), Propionic Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, Acetic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Tartaric Acid, and Natural Apple Flavoring.

I already threw the bag out when I put the food in an airtight container. I still have some of my 2 pound bag left, I will take a picture of the two mixes next to each other tonight when I get home. Here is what the reply from foryourbird said:

email: Liz, sometimes the fruit blend does come in looking a little different in color. I do see at times the pellets can be a brighter color than other times. As for the size maybe they have started having the pellets made in another feed mill. How close are the dates on the 2 different bags? I have not had anyone else that gets the Canary/Finch say anything about the size change. Thanks, Greg: end of email

Unfortunately, I don't have the bags to check the dates. Mine came in a bag that looked like yours above and it was sealed. The product inside just didn't look normal. Very weird! You guys will get to see what I mean when I take the picture - I should have thought of doing that a long time ago!

The small pbags like from the pet store the pellets are smaller and lighter in color...the ones in the 10 lb bags are a little bigger but the birds have no trouble with them, even small waxbills, owls and the zebras and shaft tails down them.

I would call Zupreem and talk with a rep there. See if they can shed some light on the matter. Same food as the small bag. the small amount of sugrose in the mix with all the other ingredients does not bother me.(finches are so high energy/metabolism I am sure it is burned off unless under exercised).

I am more concerned with preservatives that are allowed in pet food but through red flags up in regards to human health.

Here is the picture I should have posted in the first place. The 2 pound feed from pet store is on the left (neon colors and teeny tiny) and the 10 pound from for your bird is on the right (bigger and more greens and reds). Again, they are both supposed to be Zupreem fruit blend for canary/finches. I am going to contact Zupreem and I told foryourbird I would also send them the pic.

Do you remember if the 10 lb bag had a canary on the front or a zebra finch on the back? I looked at my 10lb bag, the pellets are tiny.

I compared the 10 lb bag pellet size to the pellet size in the small size at PetSmart this afternoon...same size a little bit more red pellets in the bigger size.

the item code for the 10 lb bag is zucar10 from foryourbird.com

I would check the confirmation invoice they sent you in the email and the one in the box to make sure they sent the right size. The parakeet size is rounder and larger but not far off in size.

So yours from your 10 pound bag are like mine on the left side of the picture? Weird!
I remember the canary on the front, but don't remember a zebra on the back. My order receipt just says this:
1 2 lb Wisconsin Golden Sunburst Spray Millet $12.75 $12.75

I tell you what, I WILL be ordering another one from them just to see how the next bag comes! HA HA HA! I so wish I had not tossed that bag! Oh well! The mystery continues!

The one on the right sure looks like the next size up (small) vs. the extra small finch size on the left.

I would not worry to much about a tiny difference in size if the finch can mange it. If it is an comfort my birds can eat Roudybush Nibbles with is a tad bigger and not have any issues.

Oh, I know, I am not worried, I just swear the wrong food was in the finch bag and thought maybe I was going bonkers! :)

When I had parrotlets and lovebirds I fed the canary finch since it was smaller less waste. My Grey got the cockateil/lovebird/keet size since he would snap the bigger parrot size pieces/shapes and it would fly every where....the dogs didn't mind!
