My canaries - red factor and mosaics

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Love the photos. I don't know anything about the color varieties but I do know they are beautiful! I especially like the first photo with all the water droplets. Kind of looks like an artists impressionistic painting. :D

[quote="CandoAviary"]Thanks Blake... I don't know about the colbalt... I know he has blue.. I don't know all the mutaions of the blues... but I love him.
Maybe you can disclose some information..... I bought him at the fair from a vendor that sells this breeders birds but does not rear them herself. So I really don't have the background details on him... could you maybe clue me in on these mutation colors? Here are a few pictures.. Thanks and I will be in touch with you via email :D

Since cobalt mutations don't seem to be extremely common in the U.S, at least in mosaics, I'm always a little rusty at identifying them. Your bird for sure is a black red mosaic (aka bronze red mosaic). He might have cobalt in him but I'm not
100% sure.

Blake... I'm Candace...
I have a real fondness for some of the soft muted colors of the opals and blues... but then I am also drawn to the mosaics because of that splash of color on a pattern bird... then their are the bright red and yellows.. okay... I love them all but the opals are special to me.
I have bought several from many different breeder here in Florida... there are many canary breeders everywhere,,, a dime a dozen but finding good birds is a different matter... Maybe by the time you have some chicks ready I will have some extra funds.. Uncle Sam just got all my extra fir now :|

Coopers, they are all such beautiful birds. I especially like the pastel split to agate also - really stunning. Your birds all look like they are really living the life and are happy :)

Oops, sorry Candace. :) I know what you mean, they're all so beautiful but I also have my favorites. You're right about finding the good breeders, everyone can breed birds but quality control on genetics and environment to produce a healthy bird is another.

Thanks Lisa. I have to say the more I look at her over time the more I like her. I can't wait to see her young colored out later this year. I'll share those pictures as they come in too.

Thanks! I hope to get my mosaics colored out better this year. I was late getting them color food last year so some aren't as bright and fully colored as they should be. My goal is to have very bright defined masks in my birds. We'll see what happens. I do love red factors, I hope to get some red black pairs this year or next and those along with the red factors will be the only non-mosaic types I'll breed.

i still think your mosaics are beautiful but with canaries they can have so much potential so hopefully your next clutches will yield even prettier birds
