Found my perfect cage - my indoor aviary!!

Although I have ordered a 30x18x18 cage, I figured it would do until I found the right cage. I love the big HQ cages that others are using, but I think if all works out, that I would love to have a pair of Orange Breasted Waxbills, and I have read several stories of them escaping from cages with 1/2" spacing. (They are 32Lx22wx35h.)

Then I discovered Savic cages. I haven't actually touched one yet, just been on-line. But we do have a store nearish that sells them. Savic has a cage that has 3/8 bar spacing, and is 33.5"L x 20" deep x 40" tall. This would be perfect for me - I could have one pair of Gouldians and one pair of OB waxbills...yippee!

The only negative I can see is that the base has sloped walls, which will be perfect to catch poops so they don't fall straight down

I figure I won't get anything before the fall, but now I can start saving for this and go touch it at the store and dream........

What do you think about it?

Under bird, bird cages range 60, the first entry is Residence 60 - it is the largest with 3/8 bars.

Looks like a really nice cage, and it is hard to find ones with 3/8" spacing. I have a Goldbreast, a Fire, and a Bronzawing in my HQ double flight, and they haven't tried to get out, but I've heard of others having trouble with the Orange-Cheeks. Better safe than sorry.

It's not just the worry of escapes...it's the worry of a bird TRYING to escape. One of my breeding cages has a badly fitting door which leaves a sizeable gap. Last year I came home to find a cock Gouldian hanging dead with his head stuck in this gap...blood everywhere. Not a nice way for the poor little devil to go.Better to have narrower bars and be on the safe side.

Initially when I found that cage, I was planning on getting gold-breasted waxbills, but for now have decided against them.

I also decided against that cage. For the price, I would want my larger cage to be perfect, and that one isn't. I love the smaller bar spacing, but
the feed dishes fit in tiny holes, and I prefer to use my feed hopper.
It would only fit in the bath opening half way up.
Secondly, the cage narrows toward the bottom, which means that everything flung around will hit the sides or fall out.

Neither of these things is terrible, but for a $400 cage I expect more.

I have really decided to build something larger, I think for about 100 or so I can make something nice. If I can't figure out I will get an HQ cage, but I want a dividable cage so I can scoot the birds over while I clean one side and then the other.

Oh yeah $400 could get you a cage much bigger then that. i only spent $100 on a cage i built and its 5' by 3' by 3'.
