Just Regualr Zeb?

Post by Ruffles » Sun Apr 29, 2012 1:49 pm

In my last post i was wondering the outcome of a Bc male with a Normal hen and got that sorted.

Now im curious,to me my hen looks like a regular normal but i wanted to put up some pics of her incase there was something i was missing.Im pretty new to the Zebra's mutations/splits ect so i thought id ask for a more experienced eye to confirm or deny for me :D

Here are some pictures of her

She is a normal grey split to black cheek! :)
If you pair your Black Cheek male to your hen that you pictured, you will get
50% Black cheeked
50% Normal/Black cheeked
Good luck!

No way! Really?

Im so excited,i had hoped for a true Bc pair but for me they were hard to find :(

I lucked out and got my Bc Male at a Petsmart and was just going to keep him alone till i could find and Bc female...but after 2hrs and roughly 5 petshops later i finally found a female that i thought would go with him,so this is super exciting :D

Im planning on introducing a nest to them next week so hopefully with any luck ill have some little Bc's :)

Thanks for your help!

Ruffles, I need to ask whether it is the lighting or the way the bird is sitting but are there smaudges of black in her breast area?

If she is a true split to BC the proof will be in the offspring. If she is not you will just get splits.

(just curious where you are located....I breed BC)

This is a site that you can refer to for splits to recessive mutations
http://zebracrazy.byethost13.com/SplitBc.htm
http://zebracrazy.byethost13.com/Splits.htm

If she has some black smudging in her breast area she could be split to BC, the thick tear drop also is in indicator.

I am way down in Florida!

Thanks Cindy!

For the life of me i am un able to tell if her tear markings look thick/big?

I can only say for sure that she has the dark feathering along the top of her breast but it doesnt creep down the sides, its just thin across the top then gone if that makes any sence lol

Florida eh? Just my luck lol! ;D

If you look closely she has a very thick tear that drops down way past the beak. She also has markings in her chest, as you saw. If you pair them, and they have Black Cheeked chicks then she is definitely split, but to me it looks to be a for sure that she is. Good luck!

Ahhh i see what you mean LuxandLolita,

I think she may be split to Bc,i was reading for splits that some black on the breast is 1 of the identifying marks as well as thick tears
so heres hoping when/if they decide to lay that they will all be Bc babies [-o< :D
