New Gouldian

Post by ranchnanny » Wed May 02, 2012 2:22 pm

Here is a photo of three of the new Gouldians I purchased from Don Wall in Redmond, OR. He has a very large aviary and breeds all kinds of birds. The Gouldian on the right is the one that I am asking about. The color on the head and the neck looks different. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

I have never seen anything like this. The mask having so much black and being darker colored orange and the yellow appearing to be not as bright and vibrant as the yellow back to the left makes it look to be a female but the blue band around the mask would be a male. I really wonder if this is a gould that has inherited both male and female genes... I can't remember the proper term for them but hopefully someone with more experience than me can give you more insight. Its really quite fascinating. Thank you for posting this I am eager to see what others have to say.
Owls, Goulds, European Goldfinch, Red Belly Siskins and Zebs... For now...

It's not unusual for hens to have more black in their masks.

Yes, I agree with Tiffany and Debbie, Yellow Head with a lot of black...(I don't like the expression "dirty head"...) normal green back hen! :D
