White breast or possible lilac breast?

Post by Dayna » Wed May 02, 2012 1:56 pm

So some of you may remember the group of juvies that I got last year that weren't full colored in yet. One of the males that I got is molting and his colors are coming in beautifully. The only thing is that I was told he was going to be white breast but he appears to be getting light purple. Its not nearly as dark as my other purple breasted birds and it most definitely isn't white. I even compared him to another one of my juvies that has not started getting his/her big bird feathers yet and the breast color is definitely different. Could he possibly be lilac breast? I am adding a few pics of his breast and of him beside my white breasted blue back for comparison. Sorry the pics arent the greatest my camera is getting to the point where it needs to be replaced.

I certainly do not think that is a female. The yellow is too bright and I vote lilac breast. It is so pretty, but I have never seen one that color. Lovely!!!! =D>
That black head is stunning!!!!

I agree with Dee, it looks lilac unless it's a hen.

Well he's definitely a boy. I should have took a pic of his backside. He has all those feathers in and he's got a really striking blue band around his mask sooo....WOOHOO!!! That is so exciting! I was told he was going to be white breast so it was quite the shock to see all this purple. What a nice surprise! My first lilac breasted gouldian

The beak is darker but I've seen this in males before.. I don't think it's a hen..

They're so funny. They are in a 5ft flight and have tons of room and different perches but they all like to cram on the same perch.
