Gouldian Head Color - Silver or Grey
A friend of mine breeds Gouldians. She has a pair right now that have heads that look like Silver or Grey. I've done some "google" searches for Silver and Grey Gouldians, but have not come up with any.
There was a previous thread on here: http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20142 that had one sort of like her's, but my friends is a LOT MORE silver or grey in color that this one.
Is there such a Gouldian as a Silver Head or Grey Head?
Anyone else ever see Silver Heads?

L. Heim,
Many Gouldian afficianados on here who will (I'm sure) be looking at and answering your post. In my knowledge -- limited -- the only thing I can think of is that the "Pastel" or "Dilute" black-headed Gouldian males heads look silver.
They are actually considered "dilute black".
If there is some other mutation with a normal (not dilute or pastel) gouldian I am not aware of it but someone else may know.
BTW: I like your declaration at the bottom.

Re: Gouldian Head Color - Silver or Grey
Of course a picture would help a lot, but if I had to guess I would guess a black head single factor yellow AKA "dilute". The other possibility is that your looking at a very young bird that hasn't colored out to their adult colors yet.

Re: Gouldian Head Color - Silver or Grey
More like the second one:
http://users.skynet.be/fa398872/engoulm38.htm
BUT, not as "washed" diluted out. It is truely more silver/grey, more denser than the picture above.
I will try and get a picture of her bird and find out the age.
Thanks ladies!
Oh, glad you like my signature Anna! :>)

Re: Gouldian Head Color - Silver or Grey
What body color are the birds you are referring to? Pictures would be a big help. Some examples of a gray/silver appearing head would be...
yellow bodied black headed birds will appear gray/silver (as in the link above)
blue bodied birds with genetically yellow or red heads will appear gray/silver (salmon)
I have a year old red headed male (normal) that was stuck in molt. His head is gray as it did not color in with the rest of his body (yet)

Re: Gouldian Head Color - Silver or Grey
I think it would be a variation of the black head.
The "greyish" heads are usually on dilute and pastels, like Anna said earlier.

Re: Gouldian Head Color - Silver or Grey
Here is a pic of a male gouldian that I sold to a friend. He did not know any better and labeled this bird as gray headed. lol
The parents were
Leopold:
RH, PB/WB, DF YB
Lillia:
BH, PB/WB, GB
This fellow is a BH, WB, SF YB
Is this closer to the head color you were talking about?
