Worms for RCCB
I had tried mealworms, live & dried, with no success for my waxbills. By mistake I bought bloodworms, and they LOVE them, inhaling them in minutes. I hope bloodworms are ok. They are dried & really tiny. And actually, they are cheaper than mealworms. They are in the aquarium section of food.

Re: Worms for RCCB
I've read of many others feeding them with no problems.
Actually, my last trip to the pet store I picked some up too but haven't fed them yet.
I have tried dried mealworms for my cordon bleus but they don't really pay attention to them. I picked up some (moist... eww!) ones this time but haven't had the nerve to open the can yet. LOL! The thing I'm most afraid of is I don't mind when they fling seed but please, PLEASE don't fling worms!

I bought a can of those moist mealworms too; but they are big and will need to be cut up. The bloodworms are so tiny there won't be any "flinging"

Re: Worms for RCCB
I feed dry blood worms to my RCCB and my GBW with their egg food and they both love them and they are both currently laying eggs in their nests. I don't believe they are bad for them at all.

Bloodworms are way easier to deal with. Although some people are allergic to them.

The only worms my firefinches get is the freeze dried bloodworms.
No live worms in the house for me.

Never tried bloodworms, only ones I have are frozen for my fish. How do you prepare them for birds to eat as I'm interested? I have no problems with mealworms, maggots and crickets for my birds, they are like a vacuum cleaner and don't leave anything left except husk of insects. I did once try the waxmoth larvae from a can but all birds didn't even touch them.

I use Hikari brand freeze-dried bloodworms, found in the fish section of pet stores. They are very lightweight, so will blow out of the dish when the birds get near. I mix them with eggfood, so they stay in place. Most of my waxbills love them, though I have a few pairs that do not, and will not touch their eggfood if f/d bloodworms are mixed in. They are very high in protein.

Re: Worms for RCCB
Well, I made my birds what I call "buggy surprise" this morning consisting of blood worms, meal worms, some egg food, charcoal, oyster shells, and some kelp. It was a hit! The gouldians, owls, zebras and societies really seemed to enjoy it. The silverbills and waxbills I haven't really seen eating it too much as of yet.
