Sick Society.....Tricho

Post by Cath1068 » Mon May 21, 2012 7:26 am

I got 4 societies the other day and 2 look very healthy, 1 kinda stays puffed eyes shut and sleeps alot and the fourth is the one concerning me. He has a hard time swallowing and has swelling right under his lower beak (crop related ?). I have also notice him shaking his head alot like he is vomiting. I went digging and what I found so far symptom wise is trichomonaisis. I started them on ronivet 12% mixed 2x the dosage since sunday. I did see a couple of poops that had some seed in it undigested. Other then that they look okay. Am I on the right path to treating them to get them healthy and has anyone else ever dealt with this problem ?

They are all eating and drinking well so this is good. I didnt seperate them cuz they were all housed together before so I am assuming that all were in contact with it. I do have a heatlamp on them since sunday as well. I will try to get a pic if I can. Could this be some other kind of yeast issue with them ? I am not to sure.

Thank you :D

It does sound like Canker/Cochlosoma to me.
Here's an article on ladygouldianfinch.com with some more information

good luck

Personally I wouldn't use them as fosters.

What I will most likely do is get them well first. Then I will call the breeder I got houdini my gould from as he breeds clean socities and get a male female pair from him and let them foster any eggs that come from these peids so I can have clean chocolate pieds to work with. Rauls birds were soooooooo healthy and beautiful. As a matter of fact he told me that houdini was fostered by societies but he seems to really want to take care of his eggs that he has now.

Again thank you so much Deb :D

Today is day 3 of ronivet treatment and I was wondering how long until I would maybe see any positive result ? The two dont seem as puffed and the one that has the swelling is constantly eating which is weird.... #-o
