Egg food and Hardboiled Egg? Difference

Sweet...I'm going to try the boiled seed idea and see how they like it. I learn new things from this site everyday.
And on another note, I like to add some whole wheat pasta to the mix as well and the veggie cups are almot always emptied.

I cant get my Goulds to eat hardboiled egg any which way, have tried all sorts and they simply dont touch it.

Wow, very surprising! My female gouldian, Venus, is like an hard boiled egg addict. I swear she actually smells it when I'm preparing it and starts climbing the cage walls trying to get to it. My husband, who usually isn't too into my birds, was even amused by this. When it's finally ready and I put it in her cage, she's practically landing on my arm before I've even put the dish down! And when she eats, she gets egg all over her beak and everything. She's a total maniac with eggs. Her partner, Helios, loves them as well but is a little more patient while waiting for me to prepare and a lot neater while eating it.

At the Finch Information Center, linked at left, parsley is listed as a safe food for finches. With most foods, you want to feed in moderation, just as for humans. However, I've probably fed more broccoli than any other veggie--my birds love it, and I've never had a problem feeding it very frequently.

Linda, most newbies will preface at least one question with the statement--"This may sound dumb" or "This may be a stupid question". Trust me, there is no such thing as a dumb or stupid question. We've all gone through the process of wondering what is eggfood, or why won't my bird sing, or...you get the idea. None of us was born knowing how to take care of birds, we all had to learn, and the best way to learn is to ask questions. Sometimes, you get conflicting answers, because we don't all follow the same program. That is when you get to try out what you think might work for you. My philosophy is that I have to have a program that provides the best I can do for my birds, while keeping it simple enough that I still have plenty of time to enjoy my birds.

And I've never heard of the boiled seed--I'm going to give that a try tomorrow! See, there's always something new to learn.

Couscous is great added to the eggfood as well!!

And as far as boiled seed... after I boiled my eggs for 15 minutes, I like to use the hot water to soak my soakseed. I figure some nutrients must have leached out of the eggs / eggshell since they are slightly porous and into the water. The hot egg-water also helps shorten the time needed to soak the soakseed.

Thanks Lisa, Liz, and Linda!! This forum really has been a godsend! Okay, shells in with the egg it is!

My cockatiel goes CRAZY when she sees my daughter and I eating pasta and insists on being involved lol, I never thought to offer it to them on purpose though! I wonder if olive oil is okay for them? I think I'll not take chances while we have babies and stick to the foods they're used to. They've been almost ignoring the millet and devouring the chia seeds, must be good stuff! I'll try boiling them and see if it gets rid of the gelatinous coating they get when you soak them..

Thanks Liz, that is a great idea about using the same water for soaking seeds as boiling eggs! Going to give that a try today!

I would be very leery about boiling my seeds in used egg water! Chickens and eggs are very dirty with many bacteria...... after you boil the eggs please for your bird's sake throw out the used water, there are many bacteria and germs in it from the particles that were left on the egg shell during the boiling process. Your seeds should be boiled in clean water and then rinse when finished in cool clean water.

Just my opinion as I would hate to see something tragic happen..

Tbh I've always thrown the water away after boiling the eggs so may continue doing that.
