Fledgling with seeds in poop.

Post by FancyFinch » Tue Jun 19, 2012 5:16 pm

Gross as it sounds, I am in this situation. Only the runt of the 4 baby zebra fledglings have this problem. He is smaller than the others. I have finished a round of Ronex with the adults, but am thinking I should be treating this little guy with a round of Ronex, administered with a syringe directly to him. Any thoughts, concerns, or better suggestions?

Shantel, I would call Laraine at ladygouldian.com. Tell her they fledged two weeks ago, some are eating on their own but all beg loudly to be fed. Let her know they are housed with other birds, where they came from andany other signs besides the undigested seed in the droppings. Let her know you did a round of Ronex 12% while the parents were feeding and all other birds were treated also.

She may have another suggestion in regards to the littlest one's issue.

I would leave this....someone else may be able to give you some insight in regards to your little one.

I don't think you can delete this after 30 minutes.

Seed in poop sounds like a digestive issue, with a problem like this I would consider trying more soaked and sprouted seed as these are easily digested. Shell grit helps to brake down seed. As for meds anything that can help with digestive problems would be of benefit or maybe even a probiotic to help gut flora. Getting a vets advice would he a good idea.

I would not give any more meds and specifically not give ronex direct to the beak. Give probiotics first up to restore gut balance and elecrolytes. I would also give him soft food such as boiled egg and boiled seed to soften it. Once that is done you could consider giving him meds for coccidiosis then.

Thanks Kenny. So that means I would have to treat everyone with he Probiotics since he isn't totally weaned yet? Boiled seed? And there is egg readily available.

Shantel do a search in the upper right for the topic on boiled seed...I posted one a while ago...I think you boil the seed for about 5 minutes to soften it. Drain cool and serve.

prepare boiled seed as cindy suggested but boil for 7-10 minutes. you only give the probiotics to the meds treated birds usually although all will benefit from it.

Thank you both! Since everyone was treated with Ronex, I will just give the Probiotics to all of them. It says either sprinkle on food or add to water.

I added it to the water Kenny. Now just keep refilling the water every day? For how long?
