Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
I have administered the probiotics for 2 days. Still seed in poop, so I ordered the CocciCare and will start treatment as soon as I receive it. I am also making sure they paper on the cage floor is changed often so they dont seed of of it. Since there is a graded tray that slides off, I might just eliminate the paper on the cage bottom all together. That way all waste will be in the tray below the grate, and they can't get to it.

Shantel, cocci-care is more of a prevenative, not a cure. You would need baycox for a cure. Ladygoulian carries it and another product to treat for coccidiosis.

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
In doin some more research, I am hesitant to think it Coccidia. My conditions don't match how it's transferred. It is not wet or damp in the home, and I don't have an aviary. I have Wormaway and Ronex and the probiotics. I'm thinking maybe I didn't use the correct amount of Ronex the first time or didn't use it long enough. This is all so frustrating. Thanks for all the info.

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
Shantel I would still not use any meds yet. Is he weaned properly or is the parents still feeding him while he is learning to eat. Two things come to mind with sees in the poo and coccidia isn't one of them. 1- Yeast infection 2-still trying to learn how to crack the seed. With it being young there may be a chance it hasn't learnt how to crack the seed shell properly and maybe ingesting whole seeds which won't be digested through the stomach. Another is a yeast infection which has upset the digestive tract, this can be helped with 10ml of organic Apple cider vinegar to 1ltr of water, this can be given for a week and hopefully it can help fix the problem.

I would not give any meds yet. Probiotics for 2 days is enough and give th Apple CV for one week as dan suggests

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
Dan and Kenny are right...you used the correct amount of ronex the first time but since he is the only one having this issue it sounds like a possible digestive or yeast issue within the first bird..probiotics and then the ACV may just do the trick for him. Or as Dan mentioned give him a little time to learn to eat on it's own and see how it does. If it seems health otherwise then give it a bit of time and keep updating his progress.
Coccidia...you may see wet vent along with that, if he does not have it don't treat for it. I do cocci-care if my new birds come from a store, open outside aviary or actual origin is unknown. If I buy from someone I know and the care is good I avoid exposing them to it. Deworming is aways in my opinion a good practice with new birds.

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
I sincerely appreciate all your help! He isn't weaned yet, so I'm goin to go with the apple cider vinegar for a week now. There is no wet vent, and he has perked up since the probiotics! Yay! Adding the pro biotics to the bath water is a smart idea as well, since they are sorta like kids with pool water, you know, don't drink the water....but they still do?

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
Probiotics can be a bit sticky...mine loved bathing in it when used in a cup. The cage bars got a bit sticky so things needed to be wiped down a bit!!!

yes meds at this age-pre weaning can be bad for them.give his immune system time to kick in

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
Cindy, do you clean the cages withi good ol' fashioned hot soapy water? Or a diluted bleach solution? Thank you Kenny for your patience and info! Everyone that has helped all the newbies, I will say thanks!

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
If you mean light cleaning like pulling grates and trays, changing paper....white vinegar diluted in some water.
Quarterly changing out cages to a nice fresh cange...they go in a cage that has been scrubbed down with bleach and rinsed well and set in the sun to dry.....as recommend by my avian vet.
Others use Virkon S to clean with. I have not tried this yet.
I would not go into the cage with soapy water, soap can leave a residue...you can use soapy water if you can rinse the cage well. Bear in mind hot soapy water does not always disinfect.
Bleach I would not use directly in the cage or on perches they can stand on immediately after wiping down (for bi or weekly cleaning inside the cage) Bleach can be a bit caustic if not rinsed well. Leave the bleaching for items and cages you can either rinse well in the tub or with a hose. All my water tubes, dishes perches are soaked for 15 minutes in a bleach solutions rinsed well and left to dry overnight.
JMO.
**Bleach when mixed with water losses about 1/2 it's effectiveness in 24....it also breaks down in the sun.

Re: Fledgling with seeds in poop.
I've actually been using the vinegar for cleaning like you mentioned. Thanks again.
