Standing On One Leg

Post by arcadam » Tue Nov 07, 2006 7:47 pm

One of our Orange Cheek Waxbills died. He was looking a little sick so we got a heat lamp and some antibiotics for the water. We hoped he would pull out of it but he never did

I noticed today that the male (the dead one's buddy) is standing on one leg right underneath the heat lamp. Is this a bad sign that it is sitting on one leg or am I just paranoid and am looking for anything that might be bad?

It's fairly common in birds. I read that sometimes birds stand on one leg to conserve heat and energy too. You might want to take your other wax bill out of your big aviary and put him in a smaller cage where it can actually get all the heat from your light for awhile. You are welcome to come get my extra cage.
