In my humble opinion, I believe our finches need a variety of perches and such to roost on so theyre feet are not in the same position 24/7, some round perches that are the same all the way across are fine as long as that is not the only roosting place. Natural material that you pluck from the wild is great as it gives your little one another "shape" to wrap thier little feet around. So if they seem to like something square to stand on for awhile, why not let them have that too,, I am sure that is not the only place they will be perched for the rest of their lives. if we had our whole house decorated in the same chairs throughout, we would get bored with that fast! So any way dear, you can buy square dowel rods at most lumber or hardware stores, you can cut it to the length you need and wa-la! You have a square perch.
