Pied Zebra Tails
Can anyone show me what to look for with a Split to Pied Zebra Male (orange cheek) and a CFW Hen. So far it looks like 3 of the chicks are males I am seeing the orange cheek coming through but I don't know if they are pied or split to pied. What would the tails look like? They all look normal to me.

Re: Pied Zebra Tails
Sherry, with a CFW hen and /Pied male you get:
25% Normal/Chestnut flanked white Males
25% Normal Females
25% Normal/Pied Chestnut flanked white Males
25% Normal/Pied Females
The ones that do carry split pied may not show it at all.. that is how pied shows up in different pairs unexpected. Look for white flight feathers and/or under chin and head.
You may not know if one is pied, and there is a chance that none carry pied, all males with be split CFW.
*Pied is a hard gene to get rid of so even if you can't see it there is a chance they are hiding it.

"Identifying Splits
Male and Female: Birds that are split for Pied can show varying amounts of white. It will usually show on the primary wing feathers and the chin. Some birds show no white feathers at all."

Re: Pied Zebra Tails
Sorry for the delay in getting pics these are the best I could get. I noticed one of the chicks has white spots on his wing.

Re: Pied Zebra Tails
They all look normals but as I said they may be secretely hiding pied. The one in the first picture is very pretty.
