*nod* I'm going to pair he/she up with a LB hen from my last litter, she's the one where I know most of the backround. We'll see if anything happens, or if it's an unusually butch hen lol!

Apologies for the double post, but I thought I'd show a few more photos, taken today after the Mystery Finch had been moved to a separate cage with a potential mate/friend.

If this turns out to be a female finch I am forgoing my traditional naming theme and naming it Butch

(Sorry about the poor quality - taken across the room, in poor light, through the bars...)

Most likely the marking description doesn't change...it could be a male described as having ghost markings. I will double check with someone and let them know it sings like a male.

When you ask them, would you mind also asking if ghost markings are thought to be genetic or random occurrence, and if genetic, whether they are dominant or recessive? Would be good to know for future reference :)

I don't think they would be genetic, i honestly think this would be a rare sport. Go ahead and breed the bird when you feel he/she is ready. Put butch in with one male and one female in the same cage.

I have been working with zebras mutation for years and have not seen this happen....it will be interesting to get a professional take on it. I will let you what he says about this occurrence. I know it is considered a fault..so it couldbe genetic and I will ask if it can be bred out through generations.

As cool as it sounds I still have to say ...... No it is a male he's bin singing and hanging out with a normal hen ( looks like they hit it off) but I have seen him singing to her ..Maybe I'll try and get a video if I can or some more pics ...
Kaite, I though so too until Cold R said this? :?

I never posted the link cold r so I actually didn't send you here. I sent Nova 's link off to have the bird ID'd and gave you the response also. I don't see where I posted a link to this thread.
