Finnie, it is great to have your input, thank you for posting. I can tell you really know about budgies and appreciate you sharing your experience.
Dante, it sounds like you've found the answer to your budgie's crabby attitude.
They really hurt when they bite, don't they? Even when they're small like a Budgie. I admit Iam afraid of being bitten by a hookbill.

Re: Budgie tearing at wings! bleeding!
I got bit by my uncles Scarlet Macaw!! He was just playing though. He was on my lap in the backyard and he bit my leg! He did bite my uncle pretty hard on the finger before when he was mad
The budgie feels like a bad pinch, when she bits I jam my finger into her mouth. She lets go right away. If she doesn't my finger is so big it will knock her over. Or I will blow her really hard and she stops, sometimes if she wont let go I flick her beak. Today I only got bit once or twice

Re: Budgie tearing at wings! bleeding!
Sorry, Dante, that I haven't had a chance to check back on this thread in a while.
I have to tell you, though, that if you want her to trust you, you're going to have to stop with any beak flicking. If you do anything that scares her or hurts her, you are going to get one of two reactions: Either she will stay far away from you out of fear, which will hinder any attempts to tame her, or she will try to protect herself by going on the offensive and biting whenever she thinks you are going to reach near her.
Rough physical corrections usually result in the biting problem getting worse, not better.
And any wild, noisy reaction, like yelling or pulling your hand away can teach her that she can make you "sing" and "dance", and that can become a fun game (to her). So the best thing really, is to not react at all, so that she decides that biting is useless. (I know, easier said than done, lol.)
Positive reinforcement with millet, when she is NOT biting should help.
How's she coming along now?

Thanks for that Finnie!! She is doing much better, and can step up once or twice without fluttering away, not much biting now!

lol, sounds like she's giving you quite a time!
and in response to your earlier question, yes, styptic for dogs should be fine your bird also. you can also use a pinch of corn starch from your mom's pantry if you don't have styptic powder.

Aw, well maybe when she's completely finished molting, and has no more blood feathers, you can let her come out again.DanteD716 wrote:Thanks Ria, I will use the syptic powder from now on. ANd I ripped out the blood feathers and she was fine. Now she is not allowed out of her cage at all!
So, did you end up getting a second budgie?
